broken Clovis point??

I found this in the field sunday....and it looks to me like the base of a broken clovis point. Am I right? Or....just wishful thinking. Thanks for the help!!

More likely a woodland or mississippian triangular form from the flaking and size imo. Over here it would probably be a Levanna, or Madison. jmho

the 1st picture................you can see the classice grinded haft area of what would have been a Dalton,
Does it have a diamond cross-section where broken?
or is it flat in the broke profile...............take a picture that angle
I can see the well grinded haft area in 1st picture............... 8)

I still think it's woodland or mississippian. Here's a frame of some broken bases. Top row, fluted paleo. 2nd row 2 classic Daltons, Bottom pieces are woodland and mississippian triangles.

Wildcats piece is not diamond in cross section, lacks the typical shoulders seen on most examples, very questionable thinning strikes, and doesn't look ground on sides or base.

Hey Jeff, check it out, a woodland triangle with thinning strikes. I've even got some examples of lightly ground woodland triangles.

I'd say a triangle also. Most of the ones I have found are broke in the same manner missing the tip...

Is this a Dalton? If not...what? I really appreciate all the help! I google alot....but if I dont know what I am looking for...its a little tough

No I would not call that a Dalton
It is a very old style point......................but you could have other old point types also
I dont know what I would call that,but variation in old point styles happen in some places.
I would think it to be Early Archaic...........
You have any more pictures of it................?

I didnt find this. I have been selling frames for a friend on ebay, and for my services, he has given me 3 very nice frames. I am just trying to figure out whats all there. All of them were found in and around Henderson Co, KY. Of course....the stuff I find has way more value to me....I do love these also. I will post pics of them on another topic....

i am with 37 and pick,think you got a broken triangle.the other piece you have looks like a beaver lake to me,i havent referenced it but if my memory isnt slacking,its a beaver lake and is paleo,very old point.

I think you're right about Beaver Lake, tough to read the flaking on that material. I cant think of anything else that comes close besides a resharpened Beaver Lake. Nice old point Wildcatman.
