I have found small pieces of the trigger guard and trim off what I think is a Brown Bess but have never found a large piece so when this thing popped out of the ground I was grinning ear to ear!! I thought it was fully intact but upon further inspection I could see where the end had broken off...luckily I was able to find the other two pieces right next to it!! The only thing tripping me up is all the pictures of the Bess I see on the net only had one screw hole where this piece has two...not sure if that means its a different kind of musket or not. Also at one end....I think the end that would be pointing forward if you were aiming the gun there was a small marking. Looks like either a "c" or an "e" with a small mark above it....anyone have any idea as to what this mark would mean?

It's not from a Brown Bess, more likely from an 18th century French fowler. Still a nice find.
