Hey folks,

Trying to date an area I’m starting to hunt. Pulled out a few silvers from the 40s and this buckle (theoretically the area dates back to pre Civil War times). My buckles book only goes to 1800s...if anyone can shed some light on age/type of buckle I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!

These were widely used over a long period of time. First ones in the early 19th century and some are still being made. Dating it will be done by identifying what else was found with it.

I find a few of these 'D' buckles every year, I've always assumed they were a mid-late 19thc horse harness buckle.
