My wife and I spent a couple hours at the buckle field on Friday after work. Between the two of us we pulled three more buckles out of the ground. I believe that makes 15 from a roughly 30' x 15' rectangle area. Still a long way to go in the grassy area of the property. Checked the planted area and where the house and barns once sat. Still not harvested and the weeds show no signs of dying off yet. So far, this property has been good to us, looking forward to being able to get to the rest of the property over the winter.
Found a portion of a crotal bell. ClassicBells.com helps me date it to late 1700's through 1845.
A nice old musket ball, look at that patina! It measures .50, so my though is maybe .45 without the patina.
Of course, the buckles and some other odds and ends. We may change the name of this field to the rivet field. I counted while doing these photos, we've actually pulled more rivets from the same area. I counted 32 rivets, some still with leather!
