thanks ken for posting for me i've been putting the sensitivity up high and the discrimination low. trying to get down as deep as possible. this was at about 10 inches deep. thought it was silver at 1st ended up being plated.

Late Victorian buckle - probably for fashion rather than heavy use.

Agreed— although in fact it's really a "faux buckle" sash slide or pin. When attached, it created the illusion that the buckle tine(s) pierced the fabric. There are also faux shoe buckles of similar style.
