I mentioned this first object in a post in the Todays Finds section but was hoping someone might be able to help me ID it. It was found at a colonial era site that I detected with Bergie last Thursday. It seems to be some sort of container for holding a spice.

The second item I think is part of a pocket watch but there is an additional hole on the top like maybe it had a stopwatch mechanism. Not sure when they started making stopwatches but this was found at my ATV trails where other artifacts from the 1800's have come from.

Any help would be appreciated in identifying these two objects.

Thanks

Turn item 2 over and put a handle on it and it looks like a candle snuffer, or perhaps a small mirror was set inside it? Don't have a clue about the watch parts. M ??? nty

Looking at the pictures, the first item appears to be a top off of a Salt or Pepper Shaker, since it rotates to pour (large hole) or shake (small holes). The second item and I am purely guessing on this possibly a part to a stop watch.

First item looks like something for sprinkling blotting powder on fresh ink writing to prevent it smudging.

Second item looks like a watch case - possibly with a stop feature (second stem)

thanks for the replies so far. I forgot to mention on the first item when it was opened it had broken glass inside. I thought it was a compact case also at first but did not know they had the sprinkling holes in them. Not sure why glass would have been inside unless it was glass from a mirror.

Could that one item be the shaker top from an old green kraft grated Parmesan cheese container? Seems to me, that's what they used to look like. I could be way off, but I know I've seen it somewhere. I guess if the holes are too small it would rule that out, but it's hard to tell size without reference

Just noticed the pic with the three pieces fitted together, quess that rules out "cheese shaker top" unless you only wanted a tiny bit of cheese.

How about snuff shaker. Tap out a bit onto the web of your hand...

Second item - pressure gauge case, with a pressure relief valve still attached
my best guess
