Will,

Here are those buckles I was telling you about.

The big pic shows all I found at the site except a butt plate. Others in our club hunted here and found bullets too, both CS and US. Also includes some of the other found relics.

The fasteners look like galoshes buckles. The black stuff appears to be an oilskin or leather, it's not rubber.

HMS makes me thing English navy, but I just dont know. -------Briefcase maybe?

Will, or anyone else got any ideas?

Thanks.

Burt

You have some buckles off an old May West life preserver...Isn't HMS the letters before a brittish ship name???? Like the H.M.S. Titanic?

I dunno about "HMS" but those are boot or raincoat fasteners.

Thats some great diggins! :)

Yep... look just like the fasteners off the old rubber boots the old folks called "galoshes" that we wore as kids on rainy and slushy days. I suppose that they still make them. Suspect that though found on a CW site they post date the Civil War by a lot of years.
