Bullet ID help

[bama #1]

I found these at a civil war fort in Alabama called Fort Self. I am not sure if they are pistol balls or buck shot from a deer hunter. What do you guys think? I also found a few other iron relics.

Hi,

They may be buck from the CW. They would use buck and ball. I have found plenty like them. They are displayed with 3 buck and a .58 mini (musket).

I would guess buckshot, but not necessarily from a deer hunter, check out this quote from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Buckshot and Ball WAS a Civil War load.

I would say that's what you have. Even has the white petina glaze. Get one more and a musket ball and you have a cool little display. Here is a photo of the musket .58 and buck I have pickup. All with 3 ringers and other type of CW bullets.

You are correct - they are the buck portion of a buck and ball.
