The last several days of detecting ( two hours worth ) yielded brass and lead and a shot all to smithereens Rifle Range sign.

I agree with that!
This site was last used in 1980.
It was a rifle range since the 50's.
Before that it was a dump from the late 1800's up until 1940ish.

I have a few signs with bullet holes but THAT is one id love to have. Way cool.

One thing about the sign..signs typically face outwards from the area they represent.
Danger.. gunplay beyond.
Notice that ALL of the bullet holes are coming out of the front side of the sign ?
Ouch!
