Bullt Casing ID Request

Hello Forum,

I was wondering if anyone could please assist me in identifying this brass bullet casing that I found alongside the Erie Canal. I think that this might be a dropped round, and missing the projectile. Is this made by US Cartridge Co? Thanks for looking!

My guess is ....45/70..

I would guess 45-70. It's old black powder. They dated them because black powder didn't have the best shelf life. That's from December of 1879 I believe
