It's a police button and modern if I read the backmark right. Waterbury Cos. dates no earlier than 1965.

Ah ok , picked it up in a jar of buttons at antique store, sometimes you never know.

Actually, the Waterbury Button Company changed its name to Waterbury Companies (abbreviated as Cos.) in 1943, so your generic "P" police button with the Waterbury Co's backmark can date as far back as that year.

I should mention, approximately two years ago the company changed the name back to Waterbury Button Co.

TheCannonballGuy sure does know his stuff. I was referring to Albert's button book which gave me the 1965 date. So your button could be 70+ years old.
