Button ID?

My brother found this possible button on a beach on Cape Ann, Mass. I'm hoping the button experts can make an ID and provide a date range.

Hi; It is a Bakerlite Plastic button from the 1950's. Bakerlite was a very popular plastic that was used in all kinds of things from cups to plates etc..Today those tems command a very high price. Sadly yours has no value but it is still a cool find. Happy Hunting. PEACE:RONB

Not doubting you,but how is this type of one hole button attached to something,agree maybe bakelite but looks like something strung on a string perhaps?
