Button ID'd -- sort of

I've been working hard on getting an ID on this button. After a first cleaning I couldn't even tell what the design was. Then after multiple soaks and toothpick work, I revealed what looks like a scene of a duck flying into a marsh. I also saw letters on the back starting to reveal themselves, and I was able to make out "SONS" ... more cleaning and a hi-res photo shoot later, I was able to make out "HAMMOND" which lead me to Hammond Turner & Sons, circa early 1800s in England. Their site - Hammond Turner & Sons | Button makers - doesn't have this particular button listed, so I'm going to reach out to them. Anyone else ever see one? Found in NY state.

Nice oldie, Grant.
Is it possible that this is a pair of pheasants? I base that on the length of their bodies and tails (especially.) When ducks come in for a landing, they splay out their wings and flatten their web feet to the water. I have seen pheasants glide along in the position displayed on your button though! Happy hunting, Sub

You da man!! No wonder my duck searches have failed. Searching pheasants got me this:
Ex rare Hammond Turner & Sons SPORTING BUTTON-Pheasa (03/26/2011)...

I see a duck, then immediately below that some other kind of bird... pheasant or something... then that has to be a rabbit head bottom right... Huntsmans button for sure... nice find!!

That is it! Congrats on a very rare button. Now go dig some more and have fun doing it...Sub

i like that one really cool find

Great ID. Glad to be there to witness it.

Great sportsman's button, and a great job cleaning that one! Time, Patience, and a Toothpick work so well to clean buttons. At any rate, I'd say this one is 1850s era. Seems like a lot of the sportsman buttons I've dug over the years dated to that decade, approximately.

Cheers,

Buck
