Its a known civilian blazer button with the Latin inscription SPECTEMUR AGENDO on the bottom ribbon. I found one myself possibly from the 50's.

Latin inscription or not, with the Lion symbols it would still fall into the Livery category of Buttons

I had to back search to find the meaning. "Let us be judged by our actions." Some of these found by other members are steel backed and others are brass. They are all 2 piece buttons and can date back to the early 20th century. Some schools may have used them. Maybe the rampant lion design came from a Livery button. I didnt know that.

I know, I was just playing :laughing7: sudo-livery is a made up word. Although, the blazer button has taken elements of a Livery nature & also a Military slant to create a make believe button type

I found one 4 feet deep on a Florida beach and got excited when I first pulled it out of the ditch. I dont get to find anything old much here in South Florida.

thanks BCH for the info. that's neat you found the same one across the state. I was so curious about the button because the place I found it at has an interesting story. it is a mansion called the flanders mansion and was bought by the city of carmel in the early 70's and incorporated in the mission fields recreational park which was originally the first trails used by the spanish to get from monterey to the carmel mission. the place has been hit so hard that it is hard to get any signals most of the time.
