The Tennessee Trio rarely hunts CW relics during the summer. Tenn. Josh called us and said he noticed that cattle had grazed down a Confederate camp where we have hunted several times before and scored some nice relics. He thought that we might dig a few more relics there. Dman couldn’t go today but I hunted a couple of hours with Josh before it got very hot. Josh dug 3 flat buttons and the outer ring of a brass pocket watch. I dug the dateless, holed Spanish silver one Reale. The hole was tiny and probably had a wire run through it and other “easy to lose” coins. I had dug a 1830 HD there on a previous hunt. No trace of any markings on the obverse or reverse. The Trio is still kicking and looking forward to fall. HH, Josh & Q.

As long as your all still kicking that's all that counts!

Nice finds! Congrats! It's not easy hunting in the heat.
I'm still looking for old silver.

Nice job on the silver Q! But that appears to be a 1/2 reale from the looks of it but can't be sure without a measurement or comparison. Still a great find regardless .....

Bill, it measured 20 mm and the DB dime measures 19 mm according to the book. Your expertise is respected and appreciated as to one or half Reale as my coin book doesn't give measurements on Spanish silver??? HH, Q.

Sounds like it was the Tennessee twosome today. Good to get out though, and you even got some silver. I got out to one of my cow pastures last week. They hadn't let the cows into it yet this year though and the grass was high. I still managed two flat buttons and two intact suspender clips with 1856 and 1861 patent dates.

I am looking forward to cooler weather.

Great hunt Quindy. Everyone has been missing you guys! About this hot weather. It is almost the only time of year I can find time to go. It's a lot of work when its mid 90's with 100% humidity . Takes it out of you but just look at what you guys did with the help of some cow grazing! Don't you just love that signal under those fresh cow pies?:tongue3:

Great to see any combination of the trio out. Looks like Josh got a couple tombacs. Did you forget to charge the video recorder?

I had it with me OD but we didn't feel our meager finds were video worthy. Hopefully, we'll entertain you again before long Bud. HH, Q.

Sweet finds, my friend! Nice to see a Spanish silver come up! Those tombac buttons indicate 1790s occupation. Congrats on finding a place to dig in this heat. Wish I were out more, but nothing really worth the stress of 100+ temps.

Cheers,

Buck

I stand corrected Q. For some reason your coin appeared to be smaller in your pic, but based on your measurement that's definitely a 1 reale. Those are usually a consistent 20-21mm in diameter, while the 1/2 reale runs in the 16-18mm range. Sorry for the confusion.

I am officially green with envy. :notworthy: It's too dang hot to go out there! It's so hot that the cattle are all camping out in the pond and not bothering to eat up the jungle out there. Not that I don't WANNA go. I wanna go so bad that I emptied out the change jar looking for odd coins yesterday. hahahahaha! (Two lowly wheat pennies.)
WTG on the terrific finds!
Hurry up winter!
Nana :hello:
