I love doing this. Everywhere we go on vacation, sometimes locally. I vacuum seal coins from around the world and a note and a Stamped PostCard and sit back and wait for a hunter to find it. Better than a note in a bottle :)

Anyone ever let you know they forund one?

I accumulated something like $35.00 face in corroded, dug pennies (the ordinary Lincoln memorial type) during 1998-2000. I don't know why I was even saving them, as it isn't worth the time to clean them up and spend them. So I decided to bury them as a 3500-coin mega-cache for some future detectorist. I put them under a pile of leaves/loose dirt in an area that cannot be developed or otherwise messed up with a bulldozer, due to local topography. They ought to still be there in 100 years long after I am, um...., buried in the dirt, so hopefully they will make some future detectorist's day.

What a great idea! It is a way to give back to other MD'ers! I like it and I'm going to make a cache too. ::)

Never put things in the ground.

Try buying a box of paper clips and scattering
them about. ::)

Same as leaving anything else that gets in the
way of a true hunt.

Don't want to find things that other MD'er are leaving.

Would be happy with a bunch of pull tabs over some
coins left by another MD'er.

If you want to get involved with Geocaching fine,
don't mix the two.

all have a good un........

Under the large tree to the left, my wife and I buried some wedding announcements, her hair piece and my boutonniere, a hand written letter about us, the wedding, and more, as well as our wedding website to go to if anyone finds our treasure.

We "wedding-mooned" in Vieques. We're hopefully heading back this summer where we'll dig everything back up and place everything in a more sturdy container (like a pvc tube with caps). Right now they're in a metal can, items sealed in air/water tight bags, and buried some 2 feed down. This was the tree were were married under (at Sunrise) Feb 2007... Beware the chickens and roosters if every you head to this island.

All that said, our intention is to create a map of sorts where we bury something unique at different beaches on the island, as well as wherever we travel. The map will be willed to our kids. When we get old and gray, we'll either dig them back up when we vacation there in our silver years, or maybe our kids will take up the treasure hunt.

Yes, we're dorks.

I found a cache of 140 mercs several years ago. I will rebury them, and make a complicated yet detailed treasure map, and put it in a THing book at the library. I'll hang on to them for now. Maybe in twenty more years I do it.

MY GRAND-MOTHER DID. BUT SHE ALWAYS WENT AND GOT IT... DARN

I agree...keep Geocaching and metal detecting separate.

I disagree. I do both but I think it would be cool to find a modern cache. A cache is a cache. IMHO.

If anyone would like to bury some gold coins in my yard "about 30 or 40 of them " I would be very happy to find them. :)

Just a thought.

The new kinder gentler me says "whatever".

I think that's a GREAT idea, and maybe I'll just start doing it.
Especially with all the useless clad coins I have laying around here.

What I HAVE done is tie a post-card to a helium balloon, and
hope they mail it back to me. Sent about 10 of them off and only
got one back.

I've also (oh this is mean-spirited) make up official looking cards,
that say "Meteorological Experiment - please return this card
to any post office and redeem for $10.00" and attach them to
helium balloons.

(Devil made me do it.) >:D

It would be like finding a hoax. :(

That last part was a J-O-K-E, my friend!
(Hey, I see your signature says "live - LAUGH - love" aye?

Besides, I find it's not the keeping of the treasure that's so interesting,
but rather that "CHEAP THRILL" of when your eyes first settle on what
you've uncovered. I remember finding a gold-colored Danish coin
that for a second there, thought it looked like a Kugerand!
Whhooo! the thrill! Turns out worth about 20 cents, ha, ha.

Like seeing that last wheel on the slot machine spinning with the
third "7" . . .

Vinny! My response was not to your post... it was a general thought on finding someone
elses finds... like a fake footprint from bigfoot, sure it's exciting - but it's not an authentically
lost item.
