Camp along Halfmoon Creek

My favorite spot along the '4-Wheel Drive High Clearance Vehicle Recommended' road. I can usually get it as most folks seem to prefer camping under the trees or right alongside the creek. I like a spot at least 100 yds. from running water, open space, high up with a good view of the surrounding area, and NO NEIGHBORS! I often settle for less but this site fills the bill. A little snow the day before, but the sun came up and melted it off. 58 in the day and 23 before daylight.

Cool Pictures! You are very wise. At this time of the year there is a lot of snow melt-off, and camping too close to the creek and you might find yourself floating down the creek.

Sounds like a perfect spot. Weather wise it looks great. I get the sniffles when out all night on those less then 30 degree early morns. I fix that with a stiff mixture of hot instant coffee. Most folks ask why heck I drink that stuff, but it does me alright and it's fast and simple. Odd thing this weekend. Mama said she thinks she'd like to go camping sometime. I asked, in a tent?. She said sure why not? We haven't done that together in a long time. Her work is all headed to Browns Canyon today on a company raft trip. We'll see what she thinks of the great outdoors after this day. Should be a nice weather. That rafting has grown allot on the Arkansas over the years. I knew a fella in Leadville in the late 70's who had a local radio station and was the DJ. He went by the name "Buffalo Joe" he had a lady sidekick on the program that went by the name Lori D'Lite. The little radio station really didn't make any money and Joe threw in his hat on it. One night in the Silver Dollar I sat at the bar with Buffalo Joe and he was telling me he has this great idea to start a rafting business down in BV. I said to Joe you always had been a man with a plan and I wish you the best. He did in fact start that raft business and it grew and grew more each summer. He sold out for a nice some, years ago now and it's still there today in BV as Buffalo Joe Rafting. I never knew where Joe went from there?

I camp away from running water cause it makes me have bad dreams. Funny but true. Lots of mosquitos out in the evening, but at this altitude they're very slow and you can swat them quick before they get to work. The most remarkable thing was two nice lookin young ladies in halter tops, shorts, and hikin boots completely 'snuck up' on me. I was lookin at some rocks and never heard them comin til they spoke, askin me directions to a trailhead. They have been there a few days and remarkably enough seemed pretty outdoor smart for tourists. I should have got their pic but I was too taken off guard by somebody flyin underneath my radar, and for a moment thinkin what my next two wishes would be. But they continued on and I guess climbed Mt. Elbert.

You know how to make some great pics! That looks like heaven.

We used to have a state park here in Indiana where you could get a back country pass and camp anywhere, so I put my camp on the shore of a small wooded lake and it was great until the night came and I tried to sleep. The bullfrogs were unbelievable. GA-RONK, GA-RONK, GA-ROOOOOOONK...it was the only time I have ever moved a camp in total darkness.

That sure is a nice spot to get away from everyone.

Your surprise visitors reminded me of the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales", where Little Moonlight sneaks up on Lone Watie. Old age must be creeping up on you Amigo. :laughing7:

Pointing the way for them, and seeing them leave, instead of inviting them to take their "shoes" off, and get comfortable, reminded me of another movie.
