My guess is number 2.
It is extremely hard to spot a good modern pt. even when you are holding it in your hand, becomes almost impossible when looking at a photo.
Some tell tale signs are crushing in the notch area, and if the knapper was using copper tools they will usually leave a trace of copper somewhere on the stone.
All that being said, it is still fun to play !

Question, how do you know for certain that only 1 is fake? Did you find the other 4 in the field? To play along, i pick #4, i think the base looks suspect

No doubt, #1.

It is def one of the five:laughing7:

4 of the points are personal finds that I have found in the last 30 yrs and 1 is a modern replication:laughing7:

2 looks like poop.....just sayin'

Most are saying #5. I sure am glad I guessed that one :icon_thumleft:

I'd like to guess #5. But so did a lot of others - so then I wondered why? Both it and #3 don't look to have been cooked well. Silicates are not smooth and shiny- but #4 looks suspicious in the ease of replication- kinda of crude flaking on lower half. Still though #5. Just lacks that glow...
PEACE

Certain types of chert will not have a pretty shine to them unless they've been lying in a river or creek for some time. I agree though, the patina is suspicious. A lot of modern knappers will rub Old English furniture polish on their points to age them.

#2= fake just a guess

Sent from my iPhone using TreasureNet

number 3 is fake i think

OK sorry I had to work late tonight , with no beating around the bush the fake is #3. Most of the votes where in ranking #5 then #2 then #4 then #1. #3 is a raw Texas chert, all the other ones are the real deal:occasion14:

Dang, I'll never learn. LOL! It was fun seeing all the guesses.
