So i notice that alot of people here are keeping their canadian coins why is that? i just check the dates and keep the silver ones is there a reason to keep the others?
since 2000 the canadian govt has been "coin culling" by having back pull and return to the govt -- the good metal coins made in the past -- those made of silver , nickel and copper --and replacing it with basically worthless steel cored "plated" coins ( nickle or copper plating) coins that as a rule will stick to the magnet in many coin counters * --
and yes the US dollar is doing so poorly that the canadain dollar is now worh more than a american one *
back in 1998 a mere 13 years ago while honeymooning with my wife - AT NIGARA FALLS * ---I got $1.50 canadain for 1 us dollar -- today it less than 1 for 1 -- thats over a 1/3 rd drop in value folks .
pumpkin patch -- exchange those canadain coins via mail with coin shops in canada as payment * --go online find one that deals with american silver coins * --save up a big batch of candain coins say $100 bucks worth then bulk ship them up to the candain coin stores (you will pay postage up bound in us money at the post office) --but figger the return postage fee in canadain and include it by using the canadian coinage -- out of pocket cost that way (for the first time only) is up bound postage (after the first time use some of your profiets to cover the US postage fees )--once you get your american silver --sell off a coin or two to regain your 1st time up bound to canada postage --net result --free silver or cash money if you sell all the american silver you get . --free silver / money works fer me.
sad but true
the canadain dollar is currently stronger than the US dollar * currently --- the exchange rate is 96 cents candain for 1 us dollar --so they are + 4 cents per dollar stronger than us.
I keep a lot of canadian coins, not all of them. I see so many canadian dimes I usually toss those back. But I do have a big stash of canadian dimes already. It's not a bad idea to keep canadian money, because our dollar is worth less than the canadian dollar now. I can imagine it's only going to get worse in the years to come, so it could actually be a bit of an investment.
