It's only 2 inches wide and seems to be made out of different metals including brass.

Nice find, Dudder,

Welcome to this place. It looks kinda bucklish to me, but I wonder about the flip side...

I'm thinking maybe something like the lid to a snuff container???

What's the back like, it looks like a Belt cover, or Clasp.

At first glance, I thought it was a snake. Then, a goose. Now, a swan...

Where's Leda, when you need her?

I wonder if it could be part of an old tin ceiling tile like a corner piece and yes I do realize it is tiny that's why I say a piece not a whole tile.

Judging by the size and only seeing the front, I think it could be the lid to a vintage rouge make-up container. Generally a Victorian vanity set had glass containers with a metal lid. The more expensive ones had sterling silver lids. The loose face powder containers were larger and rouge containers was smaller. Interesting find :) Breezie

Sorry about the late response. This is a pic of the back. Thank you all for the replies.

Dang. I put it next to a ruler and part of the pic was cut off. It's about 2X2 inches

I found it at a cabin built in 1835. The cabin was still standing until about 5 years ago and it fell in. This was about 6 inches in the ground. The place has never been detected (to the owners knowledge), but I need to remove all of the debris from the cabin falling and all of the junk that's been piled all around it before I can find much more. I'm hoping to find some good coins. My great uncle is the owner and lived in the cabin when he was a kid (1950's). He still has the census papers showing when it was built and some old pics of when he lived in it.
