Can't wait for a big Hurricane..

Here's photo of one of the Florida beaches after a big bad hurricane. Probably in 2004. I didn't take the pic, a friend did.

I am getting the 'gold fever' waiting for the storms to loosen up the dubloons etc. I think..

"This could be.. the year.."

Llving in Florida, being a home owner and losing my roof during number 3 of the 4 that hit us in 2004 (cost me $8000, my hurricane deductible+ my insurance went through the roof), I agree with the others, I could care less if we ever see another hurricane here.

A tropical storm off the coast does just as much good and a lot less damage. A good nor-eastern does a great job, and one of the best times here on the east coast was 2 years ago when a sub tropical storm hit the east coast and tore up the central Florida beaches. No damage to homes, but there were old silver coins and gold rings everywhere...................

4. Bad Rip Tides
5. Summer

I have to agree, it wasn't a well thought out statement, but we know what he means. I lost my Business, roof and a ton of money in Hurricane Wilma. Maybe a little beach erosion on the treasure beaches perhaps..

We have to take the bad, and find something good. I've lived through numerous hurricanes, both on land and on my boat. That's just life in the Sunshine state. Can't live next to the water and expect to stay dry.

When all the gubberment sand gets washed back out to sea... yee-haa!

Perhaps all the goofy renourishment projects will be put on hold for a while with the crummy economy the way it is.

I'm as hurricane resistant as I can afford to be. If I get whacked, oh well... I've survived divorce and started all over again, so a little water damage ~ easy peasy!

I wish we would get a "strong" storm in the Delmarva Pennisula area. We could use to have some of the WWII shrapnel washed away from the Deleware beaches..

I definately don't want to see a Hurricane, but hey if it has a name and loses it's name by the time it get there that's fine by me.

I'm sure this poster didn't mean he wishes anyone 1ll but face it. The storms do come regardless and it's part of life here. I to sit back with anticipation of these storms each year. I don't want to see anyone hurt or their lives destroyed but if they choose to build at the beach, they made the choice, not me.

Each year, as the water gets warm enough to support the storms, I get my kit (and travel kit) ready. Not to run away but to run into the storm. Being the first to be on the best beaches is a good plan for the serious treasure hunter. I've ridden out more then one storm through the years in the sometimes not so safe confines of my truck and if nothing else, the shear adventure of it makes it worth while. It is a rush when you see the top of a palm tree fly by only a few feet in front of your "safe" haven.

This year I've had a couple of other people want to go along so should any storms roll in it looks like I'll have some company.

By the way. From the looks of those buildings in the back ground, it looks like your friend was either at Green Turtle or possibly Seagrape beach accesses.

Good link. Yea, but where there is a will there is a way and the risk paid off for a lucky few. It really boils down to knowing the rules and then making them work for you.

The residents of Johns Island have long been a thorn in our sides. Even the ones that are pretty cool people tend to back down and fall in line if one of the other residents get a hair up their butts. The stories are almost endless but if you know the law, keep your cool and just keep walking away, you'll come out the winner every time. One can only prat that one day one will be drunk or stupid enough to actually put their hands on me. That will be a guaranteed new boat, equipment and contracts for life to hit the water with a full crew

I reviewed the link 2004 hurricanes. I wonder if the gates blocking the beach access to the treasure coast are still up? And if they open and close by 'park' hours? I thought in Florida the law is clear the general public must have beach access? Anybody accessing those gated areas since the 2004 season?

I'm not sure what time they close them at night now but someone shows up with a key about 6am and opens them. As I remember, there are some signs posted. They skirt around the law by saying that they are not denying you access, only parking because at night, the patrols are not adequate to protect your cars

In reality it's BS because the residents don't want a bunch of strangers out on "their" beach partying or whatever at night. It's simple enough to get around by having someone drop you off and pick you up again later. We've done that a number of times. Get dropped of at say Green Turtle then picked up at Wabasso.

It never ceases to amaze me that of all the beaches in the entire world..this treasure coast is in fact the richest. The Spanish Plate fleet carrying a historical Queens gemstones and treasure slammed into that very beach and the waves and sand tumbled the treasure for miles.

It makes me high.

Yea, it is pretty cool. The survivor accounts say that the day after the storm. wreckage and bodies were scattered as far as the eye could see in both directions. There is still lots of treasure on those beaches, in the dunes and in the water.

Hey Billybud, do I know you? Because the picture you posted in your very first post in this thread that you allege a "friend" took, is actually a copyrighted photograph I took and have posted on my website at: http://www.wreckoverysalvage.com/page8.html

That picture was actually taken sometime in the late 1990's, after a nor'easter at Corrigans.

There is nothing wrong with taking advantage of an eroded beach after a storm, but nobody in their right mind would wish for a hurricane, especially if you've lived through one and have had to deal with the damage. If you want a shipwreck coin that bad, save your money and buy one!

Unfortunately tremendous property damage and loss of life comes with "big" hurricanes, it's kinda like wishing for a huge forest fire, because it's easier to find Indian archaeological sites and artifacts after one.

I would still rather see a good noreastern or small tropical storm................

I hope the OP gets just what he wished for where he lives. I lost family in New Orleans. My aunt was in a Nursing home there on a ventilator and wasn't able to be moved in time.

I am very sorry about your losses. No man is an island.
