Hello All,

Well, we got a free day to go out and do some digging, so we battled the heat and hit the cane fields! Was a slim day, and the early highlight was a large gilded button which I mistakenly thought was 19th c. (turned out to be early 20th) :(

Later on, around the 4 hour mark I got a little tee-tiny piece of redemption with a thin, silver, Catholic medal.

Then a couple Indian Head cents made their way into Shangalang's finds, along with a rather nice Beefalo.

Then I got what I think is a wax fob seal (no stone) made of pewter! :headbang:

We rounded the next row and I hit silver, flipping out an 1839-O Seated Half Dime:hello2:

Shangalang was flipping out over what I flipped out, then I think he flipped me off most likely but I wasn't paying any attention just doing my happy dance. :laughing9:

But he had the last word when he yelled that he had a silver, too! I was SHOCKED when I came over to see--and it was a CAPPED poking out of the clod!!!

It was an 1834 Capped Bust Half Dime! His third capped ever, putting him even up with me in the Capped department! New Orleans Silver seems like it's everywhere down here, but we only dig one Capped Bust coin per year as a team down here. Those Philly coins were slow to make their way to the South of South!

Here is the video. I'm not getting sound, but I may have a plugin problem, so I hope there is sound--but if not, my apologies!

And here are photos of the finds:

Great work. The capped bust cleaned up so nice.

Please send some of those capped busts up this way Buck. They're almost non-existent here in spite of all the colonial silver. Another nice hunt!!

Where have you been Buck? Missed your posts, but this is a killer comeback! Congrats, that was a great hunt! :icon_thumleft:

Man that's a dream find!!! Capped Bust is on everyone's list! Congrats!!! HH

A nice one too, wtg. Still looking for one here.

You guys got some cool finds!

great to hear from you Bill! I feel like we've been lucky down here with the Capped silver. As you may know it took me well over 20 years to dig my first. Now I have three and Shane has three. My first was dug on KY. They are tough coins to dig. Not frequently posted on the forum in general.

i made the first post this year a few days ago, so check that one out. Sometimes work and life do the driving, and sometimes detecting. We should have a bit more time to dig now. Thanks so much my friend!

Best Wishes,

Buck

Glad you guys are getting out, and picking up the silver.
Congrats on the capped, perhaps this will be the year for getting more than one ?
I got one in 9 years, and it is poor,, or at best AG-3

They are tough coins to find. Not many Philadelphia minted coins made it this far South, so we are lucky to dig Capped at all. We hardly ever dig a large copper down here.

Glad you were able to get one. My first took me over 20 years to find. Finally dug one in Kentucky.

Great finds! Seated is great, but to pile Capped Bust on top of it? Excellent!

Thanks, friend. Was a great hunt. Capped is much rarer to dig than Spanish even.

Cheers,

Buck
