Cardinal flipping!

I took this series of pictures showing a cardinal trying to make up it's mind whether to run one of the cowbirds off the feeder or not. He lost his nerve at the last moment.

Don't those cow birds lay their eggs in another birds nest and vamoose?

Yes they do. they eat the eggs or push a few out of the nest, lay their eggs and the other mother raise them. often when the young get larger quicker than the other offspring and are able to command mroe food often resulting in the death of the other original young. Edit. Just looked it up to make sure I was right and they are indeed brood parasites.

Great set of pics. Those brown headed cowbirds are actually very pretty birds to have such drab and common colors.
