Career suggestions.

While it is nice to do what you enjoy, remain single with no kids if that is your path, having a wife, kids and responsibility doesn't always make that possible.

Thanks for all the replies guys. The land surveyor is interesting to me but I'm still undecided. Keep the suggestions coming.

Truer words were NEVER spoken. And that's exactly WHY I stayed at a job I hated for 31 years. It's all about choices guy.... chose wisely! And think with the "big" head!!!!! And don't join a rock band.

In addition, let me add, I worked for a small company that grew into a top ten company. That made a big difference. A small rapidly growing company is heaven to work for. The pressure is light and the rewards are great. Like medical coverage that carries thru retirement, profit sharing that is realistic, long vacations (5weeks), company cars, expense account, etc, etc, etc. But be aware as the company reaches peak, the vultures move in and take over. At that point, it is time to bail out. I took early retirement after 32 years because I could see the hand writting on the wall. Fun ride, when you hit the beginning and if you bail out before those golden parachutes start opening you have it made. Hay I loved what I was doing as a field service engineer.
I raised my 4 adopted and one foster child. I wind up with not much money, but hay, everything is paid for and I own 11 acres in the country and TH whenever I feel like it. True I lost my greatest possessions, My wife and a son along the way, but that's life. Frank...-

Whatever you choose make sure it is something you will want to do for the next 20+ years because if you don't like your job you will always be looking for the next better job, Money is an issue but being happy with what you do is very important, if you like the outdoors get a job there, if you don't mind the office route go that way, I kind of have an in between both, I drive truck and I enjoy that, some paperwork but I am always outdoors. When you make your decision factor in later that you may get married and have kids and add that in to the money part, start saving now so you can retire comfortably. GOOD LUCK in whatever career path you choose.

It all comes down to doing what is right for you, planning wisely, and some luck.
If you can work at what you love and get paid well, you're golden, GL!

I am at the age where I'm about to choose a career and would like some suggestions. What would you guys say are some good jobs for someone who has always liked treasure hunting, mysteries, and history?

Dan, my suggestion would be to teach yourself how to trade the markets. Even if you take a few hours each week you can learn how to do it with todays info and tech. Even if you go on to school and a job just keep teaching yourself and do it on the side once you have the trading education. Trust me, you can do it and I wish I would have started alot younger. I am self taught and have been trading full time now since 2008. It took me about 2 years to teach myself and I spent about 20 hours a week learning everything I could. I started trading with less then $5000 but with discipline and management I started making a little then just keep at it. I now trade with the mindset as another hobby almost...I love it and hate when the markets are closed! It's true! lol

Now I have the options of detecting whenever and wherever for the most part.

Aqain, I just wished I did it when I was younger.

Good luck in whatever path you take and HH!

I hope the job situation gets better, because you just never know what will happen in 5, 10, 15 or even more years then that. There is alot of people with College Degrees working part time minimum wage jobs because that is all they can get.

You could probably gain access to some really good places to detect too! Nobody would ever question the guy trying to locate underground utilities :hello:

SSSSHHHHH don't spoil it. I get into places few ever do.

I just have one thing to suggest. If you like something and have a compassion for it, then it may not work as a career, because it would take the fun out of it. On the other hand do what you are compassionate about. You have to weigh it.

Something in finance.
It's always better to be a well heeled hobbyist, than a broke scrabble detectorist.

Go where the money is.
