Catlinite pipe with lizard and ???

This is an Iowa find with a really cool lizard on one side. The other side has a series of connected dots. Could this represent a constellation? Does anyone have any thought on what it could be?

It appears to be a Chippewa elbow pipe and I am guessing that the holes once held tiny bits of bone as a decoration, the Lizzard effigy would denote that it was a mans or boys pipe. Awesome pipe!
