What is thing for ? The string is elastickey . The bottom part is rubber , there are more words hidden above "caution" , but the canister won't come out , I'm afraid to force it . I see the words ON CARD . , and CHICAGO , ILLINOIS 60650

I can turn the canister , and it makes a clicking noise - it doesn't unscrew .

Re: CAUTION !

One time use emergency air horn?

Strange item with what appears to be a heavy-duty mount, curious.

Going to keep looking, this one piqued my interest. :icon_scratch:

EDIT: Thought at first it might be a halon fire extinguisher but seems a bit small
at 2.5 oz , where did you find this?

Re: CAUTION !

Can not help you. does not look safe.. The canister most likely screws in.

Re: CAUTION !

what does the open end look like ? --either it propelled something up or out or made a noise or something -- why else the gas canister but to provide "power" ? what might have sat in the end ? warning !!!! screwing it down / inward might just punch the seal !!!! not a good ideal till you find out just whats in it and what it was used for .

since it will not unscrew for replacement -- the canister is clearly not replacible, so its a one shot use type then throw away item -- thus you only can tighten it inward until you bust the seal using its "power / contents " and then later on you replace it with a new one .

Re: CAUTION !

I've seen those before but not in a while. they were made to put on the bottom of the door (the metal part screwed to the door) and the rubber tip swiveled down and went on the floor. that way if someone opened it, the canister would release the contents and the theif would get a surprise... some of these were filled with compressed air to make a shriek or horn sound, some were filled with tear gas to give them a big surprise... so be careful it might be gas in there.

so there it is, it is a door burglar alarm.

Re: CAUTION !

Thanks Steif ! I think you nailed it ! The elastic cord is just the right length to streach over the door knob .

so contents might be compressed air or tear gas -- so DO NOT shove the canister inward !!! at best a very loud shrill sound --at worse CS tear gas . -- either way not good for you.

How many times do you think it would take setting that up and taking it off the
door and setting it up and taking it off before you forget it or it drops on it's
own and you set it off on yourself? :-[

I think you can just flip it up when you dont need it. I dont understand the purpose of the string except as a reminder maybe. :icon_scratch:

Looks like the "elastickey" string is to hold it in place on the door.

you flip it up enough times and it loosens up and as you are
using the door it drops and you set it off and have to go change your drawers! :D
