Yup I know there is a section for "What is It" but I am quite sure this little relic found near a celler hole in South Hampdon , Mass is something you may never see again that I want to share with you.. It is pewter about 29mm, size of an early large cent but twice as thick. One clue it is not a button. I will wait to get some opinions then give mine. All questions and comments welcomed. What a awesome find! Is it a large button? Whatever it is congrats!

Hmmm I'm stumped so far. All I can think is that it's some sort of medal but I'm not giving up. If it was a medal it'd prob be double sided. Give me a few

Maybe part of a wax seal, or embossing die ?

That was my initial guess too, but if it was the pattern should be reversed so the imprint would be correct. I have no clue otherwise, but it sure is a neat find!

A few more clues. It is Revolutionary War period. Not a medal , not a coin , not a button. One side with USA monogram and the other plain.
Put on those thinking caps . Come on IP hop in here.

My only other guess would be rosette. But seems small. Can't wait to here what it is.

Nope not a die or rosette or wax seal.. May not be very fair to make you guess if you don't collect Revolutionary War artifacts. Here is another clue or should I say a question. How many have seen the Mel Gibson movie The Patriot? I will give it another full day and give you my opinion. Be prepared to sit and read please. It will be worth it. Another clue a French connection. Thanks for thinking.

Continental army.

Your close as I thought it was a die at first but not. Again there is a French Connection. Thanks for thinking.

I know I've seen that before, but I can't remember where.

Nope but was modeled after it . You guys are getting close. Big reveil tommorow evening.

If it was modeled after the bar cent then its not revolutionar?? Didn't the war end in 1783??
Just thinking.

Couldn't be a very tight model as the "Bar Cent " had the letters overlapping horizontally not stacked vertically - I'm going to guess
that it's a Centennial issue 1876 based loosely on both the "Bar Cent " and the Continental Army button .

Just thinking.

I wrote the Bar cent , which is around 1785 and post war , is a coin modeled after this relic. After meaning after the relic. And yes the relic is Rev WAr 1775-1783 period.

Is it a Rev War USA Continental Army hat cockade? Very cool item, Sub 8-)

How about a mason jar type insert?
