Celt find 5/2/2010

Got out to nice big field today. I found this dandy of a Celt it is all there the butt end is banged up from use . Here is the video and in-situ pics

The more and more I look at it the more I think it is a groove-less axe (unfinished) which in technical terms is a celt

I know you and I had this same discussion on another board and from what I just saw on your video solidifies my theory that it is an unfinished 3/4 Grooved Axe. The square poll end and the flat bottom are classic traits of the 3/4 Groove Axe and that one has everything except the groove.

Killer find. You just don't find many monsters like that anymore.

Thanks for the comments Folks I have came to the conclusion it is a unfinished three quarter groove axe or a Celt you can draw your own conclusion

Capps, I am gonna disagree with Steve in his opinion about it being an ungrooved axe. When I talk to you, you told me that it showed signs of use on the poll end as well as polish on the bit end. If they made that and used it like that, then it is an ungrooved axe. Ungrooved axes that show signs of use are called celts. If it has signs of use, then it was hafted like a celt. Thats what I'm thinking.... Its a killer find...... John
