Scored a bag of nickels and cents from one of my supply banks today. I was a bit nevous they might be someone's dumps. Turned out great. Got a 1950 Jeff Nickel plus quite a few nice pre-1960s. Very exciting as we only need the 1955 to finish the set now.

The cents were very good too. Got 19 wheats, oldest a 1929. Also got a Spaceneedle elongated. That was pretty cool. Very good copper results as well. We are getting quite a bit of copper cents piled up...

HH to all. Still have a box of nickels and cents to open this weekend. Getting some more halves this coming week. We have started to get silver in our halvees again, and with all the big scores on the forum, I hope our ship comes in soon as well ;D

nice finds, i've gotten plenty of 1955's in rolls ???

I need 1938d 1938s 1939d 1939s 1946s 1948s 1950d 1951s ... any suggestions on how many boxes it could possibly take to complete my set?

Yep, I can't seem to find the 1955 either :dontknow: Its funny because I have found some of the key dates and not that one. Nice finds!

Buffaloboy,

I can tell you that it's taken my daughter and I about three years to get this far on our nickels. Probably about 100 boxes or so! It is funny to be down to the 1955, and I've even gotten two 1938 S coins and doubles of some other tougher dates (by mintage) than that stupid 55!!! Oh well, we've also pulled about 100 extra war nickels beyond the ones in the set and quite a few nice Buffalo Nickels too. No V nickels yet, but who knows. Also have about 15 pounds of pre-1960 as we save any of these that are in decent shape. Who knows maybe someday they will be my retirement plan ;D

Nickels are a fun diversion from halves and they are my daughter's favorite...

Thanks for the input! Patience is the key to this hobby. I've probrably only done 20 boxes of nickels and got 1 "V" nickel (1904)...
Maybe next box is your 1955!!!

After searching eighty-six boxes, I lack the 1938-S, 1939-D, 1944-S, and 1950-D. The 1944-S is puzzling, as I have found three of the 1943-D, supposedly the most difficult of the wartime issues. The 1946-s is very difficult, I have found only four, three of which had problems of staining or corrosion. I have found two of the 1955, it is difficult as well. The 1948-s and 1951-s seem easier, I have found eight and five of those, respectively.

Do these results seem typical?

Numismaniac,
Congrats on the good work on the Jefferson's! I am way behind you, but think that's my next project. I started a neighbor working on his nickle book, it is a good coin to work on -- a good number still circulate so pulling together the whole set isn't "mission impossible."
I hope the halves come in good for you this week.
Best of luck!
Steve
