Hi, long story short I was helping a friend go through his recently deceased brother's rocks. I was initially excited to help him as I am a huge rock hound and my friend said there were thousands of rocks, but upon getting started it sorta turned that his brother (bless his heart) loved rocks, he really loved rocks so he picked up almost any rock :( and kept it. I made short work of what we had with us, there is more in TN to go through. There were a few broken points and one outstanding scraper, and then there was this....it was his latest find prior to his sudden passing. We think it was found in TN, but cannot say 100 percent as he was a lineman and did travel a bit. I took a few quick snaps with my iPhone so sorry about the crappy quality. I cannot see that there was any knaping on the edges which makes me think ceremonial, but I cannot find anything similar except a few ceremonial things in Japan. All opinions welcome!!! It weighs about 3 pounds, type of stone? don't know. It sure feels nice in the hand though~

You keep bringing up the Japanese items, but this not Japan and that is just a natural rock. Like Joshua said, if you feel better calling it a Ceremonial piece then go for it. Just what kind of ceremony would have been used in? You asked for opinions and got them and now you are the one calling people names so who is the troll here??

By the way, I have been collecting for close to 50 years. How about you?

Yeah that was pretty callous reply when people are trying to help you. Listen it is not what you think it is. No matter what the rock is it served a purpose!!! Its purpose was not a artifact or plain geofact its purpose was to bring joy to a person who lived a short life. If that stone meant the world As they all did according to you to this friend that is all that should matter to the brother who lost him. Your actions are not called for and several knowledgeable people have helped you and you are calling them names. In my personal opinion you dishonor this friends brother by trying to embellish this stone and carry on with your actions. That is the best stone in the world to your friends brother and guess what......that is all that matters.

It is a gerofact, I use to find a lot of them like that when I lived in Missouri and there were pretty smooth as well.....
