I was a Lion specialist for the Gov.,for many years....yes I was who they called when there was an attack or worry of an attack,or they wanted to catch one to collar it to study them.I urge you to take your friends situation serious. That is not common behavior, only hunger would cause a cat to do something like that.Yes,many have lost there fear of man,but mix that with hunger and you have a recipe for disaster.Even if your friend does not have kids or pets,I am sure he would feel terrible if one of the neighborhood kids was attacked.I would let your local Game Management Dept. aware of it at least

The majority of mature cats I've seen will have a couple scars on them around their faces, ears. That cat appears to be in excellent shape!

That is true, but no way to age an animal.Males are territorial and do often fight, but females no.
Immature cats have shadows of spots on there fore legs(often until; they are three or four years old),and dont have the blocky head or stocky frame you see in the cat above. They also tend to be a dark shade.

So what do you want to do?Everybody move away from any place an animal used to be?I guess if the Native Americans decided that your theory was better we would all be in England with eh?There is no plce we are that was not at one time an animals "territory"!!

Live and let live. If you have to live that far out, you can expect to have visiters, and can you explaine what theory I have :icon_scratch: you seem to have a problem with Brits :-\ all I said was who lives were :icon_scratch:

Well more an more people here are moving out away from cities to get away from city stuff an so they are invading animal areas where the animals keep getting pushed to to get them away from people, here I live almost downtown and the last few months there have been a skunk an coons which I've never had here my entire life! So yep we are invading them. But as for where this pic was taken there was nothing told to let us know if "friend" lives in the animals area or if cat wondered in to a more poputaed area.

I have no problem with England...just damn glad I dont live there!
So you say we should all live in tight little confined areas because of the animals?Where should these places be?What will keep the animals away since animals associate food with humans? And what about disease?Confined closely populated areas are cesspools for disease!
If there were no humans there would be no problem with wildlife.I take it you probably live in an apartment building and probably rent?I am sorry I own the my house and property in a rural area,I'll be damned if because an animal was there first I am going to move!
%99 of problems I dealt with were down town major cities, lions, coyotes biting people eating pets etc

That makes three of us I am sure!!! :laughing7:
You folks over there really dont have any idea what problems we have here as you dont have lions, coyotes, bears and such.I am sure you would sing a different tune if you did. By the way,I am not an animal hater, quite the opposite,I have spent my life trying to curb human animal issues

I'm glad you don't live here too :D

No I don't live in an apartment, I to have my own property, no one says you have to move, but you don't have to wipe out everything else that lives there with you..do you :icon_scratch: there are plenty of outher places in the world were people live side by side with dangerous animals, Africa for one, you just live on this planet, along with every outher living creature...you don't OWN it.

Your not understanding,I never said wipe anything out!Nobody wants that. Its taking out the few that have gotten used top being around people, with predators that is a recipe for disaster, its more about the safety of kids.Population control, everything has to have that, otherwise you have over populations, and disease which leads to a cruel lingering death that can be disastrous to populations. We,humans are the problem true, but what are we going to do?Translocation DOES NOT WORK,it takes animals out of there domain(areas they are familiar with, where water is,where food is)and puts them in another animals domain which usually leads to a fight which leads to infection and death. It also runs the chance of spread of disease(which is the reason animals often times come into populated areas)Last it simply moves the problem, once an animal becomes accustomed to being around humans and associate food with humans its easy, and problems arise.
Your example of Africa......you better look into that, there are hunting programs on many of the preserves for pop control and the meat goes to the local villagers, its not a pretty little picture of one big zoo that most see on T.V.Where there are animals and humans there will be problems and has to have control

HCW, you may never see one in the wild, but I guarantee you they will see you. Doc's right, that cat looks in pretty good shape, so maybe it's young and stupid. The best thing to do would be to run outside and yell, scream, fire shots in the air, sic the dogs on him, and whatever else you felt brave enough to do, to convince him he wasn't welcome here. Mountain Lions don't have that long of a life span here in Colorado, but you might help that one live a little longer.

Very good points, most cats that have attacked humans were between three and five years old, probably not versed in the hunting game yet.Humans are easy prey if they are hungry
