Got this in some scrap metal, course, I can't scrap it! lol. measure's 9 7/8"L x 6 1/8" W, stands about 1 1/4" H, has 4 peg legs, Made entirely of brass, has been repaired and that's what really gets my curiosity going, its important enough too someone to have it repaired or maybe they just didn't like it broke?, looks too been brazed maybe and has been hand worked by the looks of it, but no idea if it's entirely hand made, and would love to know what it say's and age or whatever else some of ya's might know. Weighs about 2 pounds. Thanks!

I sent PMs to DCMatt, Jadish and Chungkokyan so help may be on the way.

We have several other members that can help but I cant remember the names. One is OlDaveyboy or Davidboy and there are others. Maybe searching through the members will help.

They wont see it, thats why I sent the 3 emails. If you can think of anyone else that reads Chinese or Korean, you may email them if you wish.

I sent this to a friend who reads and speaks a good bit of Japanese, here is what he says:

"Definitely Chinese. What it says exactly I can’t say. If I gave it a harder look I might recognize some of the characters, but even then I couldn’t make much sense of them."

RD ~

Here's a link to a website where you can use your mouse to draw in each Chinese character and it will translate them for you. I experimented with it some time ago and discovered it works, but is time consuming. However, it's still a lot of fun and something to consider. Or you could take your item to a Chinese restaurant or market and someone there should be able to tell you what it says.

P.S. ~ I went to the site and was reminded that you will need to know which of the various Chinese dialects the characters are in ... the first character/symbol has about a dozen different meanings depending on the dialect. But if you mess around with it enough you may be able to make some sense of it. :icon_scratch:

We have members that can read this in a second and they will help but they need to be located to bring this thread to their attention..

Good luck Bob. Go for it if you have the time. :icon_thumright:

Some of the characters look similar to Chinese cash coins but I don't have time to look. Thats how I guessed it was Chinese

Wild guess: The Chinese/asians tend to write prayers on bits of paper, fold them, then burn them. This could be what they burn them in and the writings a prayer in itself?
Dunno, but looks like a brass ashtray without the dips to hold the cigarettes on all corners, which is what gave me the idea above.

thanks folks and bigC,, I see you sent 3 pm's, thanks! I'm trying to find how to find the 3 you mentioned. I won't bother them since you have wrote them, I dont think that a good thing. I havent been on here in a long time, see they made some changes by the looks of things, I'll try and figure this out when I get back from town, the translation thing would be cool! but, how would you know what dialect it is?
Root lotta of questions ehhh? lol

def chinese --by the letters styling -- I recognize some of the letters but not enough to do a full complete translation --however i do feel safe in saying its chinese lettering.-- believers in buddha do write prayers on small bits of paper and burn them --the fumes of smoke from the burnt papers are supposed to carry the prayers to heaven.--it might be a alter piece for burning these prayer papers

Welp, if even should this not get translated, I do appreciate everyone's help and info. gave!! Knowing it could be a Chinese Prayer Tray is nice enough and would explain why this was repaired in the past. I do still hope to get it translated and maybe an age. I'm including a picture of my small brass collection "Lamps and hobby pieces are not included" where it's at, and will stay at. And nope, no idea how much all this weighs, so long as they don't fall thru my floor is good enough, and all's photographed individually or in groups and never counted how many pieces I have to date, for I do keep adding as I find it where I can afford it! lol. And I did find a few prayer trays on Ebay, similar to them, so it might be. Thanks and hope ya's like my lil collection! root There's a few pieces that's not brass, about 5 I believe. lol. And think this is all rite too show on here???
