How old is this chinese seal and can someone translate it? It comes all the way from australia.

Your seal on the left, rotated to the same orientation as the one posted on Asian Arts:

I don't think there's any reliable way to put a date to it.

yes that's my post but the translation is not correct to my feeling. because the seal face is very complex and has allot of caracters in it, more that what the translation supposed to be.

i will try to make daylight pictures but as red coat mentiones it is pretty impossible to date it.

it is the exact same way of carving, not the same seal face of course. if you would magnefy mine you will see the exact same way of carving lines.

What information were you given about it when you acquired it?
Yours is not as precisely cut as the authentic example you provided. Fakes are prevalent.

Redcoat was pointing you in the right direction showing an exact match seal and you say no. Then you show an entirely different seal and say thats your answer!
That makes no sense whatsoever.

I get what you mean. But the same rock type could be used through generations like jade carving, which can range in dating. The same style could also be something passed on through generations. Like a tradition.
Don't get me wrong, its a nice object and something I'd be happy to have sitting amongst my stuff. But is material used and carving style used enough to nail its date. And what about its writing meaning, there's another with the exact same symbols shown. I do see what you mean though with the symbols shown in that other translation that there are more symbols on each stone than the translator showed with his translation. If it did say that amongst the entirety of the symbols then the question remains, what do the remainder say or mean?
