I googled this. I know they inhabit the same areas and have heard that cougars will kill a bobcat.

Yep ! We run in to both, as we have the Six rivers (957,590 acres) and the Siskiyou National forest (1,723,179) acres in our back yard.

I have got pictures of quite a few bears. They are very curious and have left claw and teeth marks in camera boxes. Haven't had them get a box open and damage a camera. Have had a flimsy flash container destroyed by a bear but flash gun was dirty but still works... I'm always glad when the bears are hibernating.

That rabbit would of only been an hors d'oeuvre for a mountain lion, they usually go after larger game.

Bobcats are slower in a straight line than a mountain lion but are quicker and a lot more agile in a short and turning type of hunt making them more suited in hunting rabbits and other very agile game, a mountain lion because of their heavier weight would have a harder time turning with a rabbit, they are more suited to longer running and hunting larger animals like deer.

Had a female hiker in our part of the country killed by a mountain lion the other day, which doesn't happen very often. There are certain ways to deal with lion encounters, and CPW tries to educate people on them, but they mostly only work if you see the lion first. When I'm outdoors in mountain lion country up here (everywhere) I operate on the belief that I never see them but pretty sure they see me.

I heard about that incident... I have never seen one in the wild except occasionally a glimpse of one from the car when they're crossing the road... I know they see me and I don't see them.

Great pictures. Congratulations and thanks for sharing. Such a beautiful animal. We have both bobcats and cougars in these mountains, too. Only time I have seen a cougar in the wild was from a vehicle.
