Picked this up at an estate sale just because I didn't know what it was and it was free. It's a little over 2 inches long. The top opens and closes on both sides as shown. The top piece with the two hinged lids fits inside the bottom portion. It looks as if it should pull apart. It is corroded together at the seams where the two pieces fit together, so it is/has been soaking in wd-40 for the last 48 hours. It hasn't helped yet. There is nothing rattling around inside of it, but it feels bottom heavy as if it is filled with something. Maked Hercules. Anybody?

Vintage Ink Pad Hercules Metal Case & Rubber Stamp

This vintage metal container is made to hold a rubber stamp and an ink pad. The lid has a hinged cover that opens on both sides and acts as handles for the rubber stamp on its underside. The rubber stamp has the name and address of a previous owner on the stamp. The case is 2 1/2" x 3/8" x 1 1/8" and has a vintage patina.

Yeah I figured it wasn't a cap thing either...
When you think of objects inside and then holding two parts to pull apart... caps would go everywhere.

I too thought stamp pad was a great guess...

I thought if not stamp than a pocket lint brush.

So... I was wrong both times :P

I just repeated listing... but if you notice I added my ? to it... for to me... it did not "add up".

Sorry, I skipped right past your reply last night. Didn't even see it, somehow. Thank you Don, you nailed another one.

Good deal, I'll mark this solved. Thank you for finding another example. Much appreciated.

Now to get it open and see what is on the stamp...
