Civil War Belt Plate

Lucked up and found my third Union plate! This one still has part of the back Mark and looks to be a WH Smith- Brooklyn NY. The plate has been bent inwards so must have been stomped by a rebel soldier, or so I would like to think! Rather intriguing I guess to see it bent back this way. Thanks for looking and HH!

Congrats !! Great work rescuing that beauty from the dirt. That one is still on my list. Ive found a breast plate and box plate but never a buckle. Cant wait till fall to get back out there finding my relics . I'm tired of coming up empty at the beaches.

Sorry my original post on the thread was a little short with not much info. This was found at an old Dr.s house built between 1840-1850s. The area had both Union and Confederate occupation throughout the war. Craziest thing is the house has been hunted hard and the plate was found 3' from the back porch. The signal was a little iffy as the VDI was is in the mid 60s. Usually they ring up in the 80s but I guess since it was upside down the detector only read the lead backing. This plate was only about 3-4" deep so it hadn't settled to far under the grass. There have been bullets, scabbards, buttons and I'm sure other relics found here over the past several years but not sure exactly what all has been found on this property. I pray that the next one has a CS instead of a US but we will have to see about that. Thanks for all the replies and HH! I will try my best to post more of my finds in the future as I haven't been on here in a few months so sorry for only posting once in a blue moon.

A great piece in any condition. Bet the ATpro made load honk on that one. Got a big civilian buckle once and it was so loud i almost dropped the machine. Great work on saving that history. Hope you find more.
