Went to a farm that has given up a fair number of civil war bullets in the past hoping for more goodies. The rain came earlier than expected and I got soaked before I called it quits. I did manage to keep swinging for 3 hours and found the usual modern cartridges, bullets, shotgun head stamps and some trash. I also found a nice colection of copper wire to recycle.
The treasures of the day were 4 fired three ringers, a mashed round ball and an aluminum Camay soap token. I understand that it was probably produced in the 1920s.
Does anyone have a reliable way of cleaning the crud off of the aluminum without destroying the token? The acid in the soil is really hard on the old aluminum. I think the old aluminum tokens are a real nice find, I just wish I could clean them up so they are nicer to look at. I have been reluctant to try in the past because I don’t want to ruin them.
I had some fun and didn’t get skunked so it was a good day in spite of the rain. Thanks for looking and may your coil, lead you to good things.
