Hi, this round, hollow, nut-looking knob rolled out of the dirt while I was standing 3 feet in a union soldiers winter hut.I saturated it in olive oil. What would you say it came off of? Thanks Snaps
I looked at this one for a while. It looks like a single piece of leather shaped into a partial sphere. Not sure if that's an easy thing to do even in today's world.
My only guess was it's the base of a shuttlecock.
In the CW era they played a game that was the precursor to badminton. It was called Battledore or Battledore & Shuttlecock.
It used the same type shuttlecock as the later Badminton game - with feathers attached to a cork ball. The cork was sometimes covered with leather.
