Been a couple weeks since I've posted my hunts. I decided to go back to my early 1800s farm cellar hole stomping ground tonight. I've been pounding it all summer. Found a couple draped bust largies, a draped bust half and many colonial thru mid 1800s buttons at this site...not to mention countless cool relics. The past few hunts at this property have given me nothing but scrap. Tonight I was determined to dig every damn repeatable. I'm so glad I did. Within an hour I pulled up these three beauties! These are the first military buttons I've ever dug!
Literally the first plug I popped open was the New York(?) militia button. It rang up a bouncy 62 to 68 with a side order of square nail. I believe it's from the Civil War but I'm not 100% sure. I thought it was a shotgun shell at first because it came out of the plug back-end up.
I just thru it in my pack and didn't realize until I got home what I had dug.
Within 5 minutes of the first button, I get a crunchyyy 48/52 signal. I popped the plug and instantly knew I had something special.
My heart is still pumping when I look at her. I still don't know what era she's from. Civil War? Earlier? She cleaned up niceeee!
The last is just a cool looking civilian button. I'll take it!
I continued to dig well past sun down. Head-lamping in the dark is becoming a necessity being so close to winter and all. I think the farmer harvesting corn across the road must have thought I was nuts. lol If anyone has any information on these buttons, I would be very grateful for your input!!
