Went out with Joe early this morning to a spot here in the Berkshires where people have been going since the town was incorporated back in the late 1700s. Here's an old print from 1875 that was in one of the early gazetteers:
A wild place place that has pretty cool geological features, I've found some very old coins over the years. But I also know it's been hunted fairly well.
Went way up on the slope of the gorge, figuring some braveheart would have done a little exploring. Joe found a 1892 Barber dime on a flat spot, and a few minutes later I got a strong high tone. Thrilled to see a big fat silver ring in the hole:
Made by Grouse and Co., there's still a little enamel on the face. Never found any CCC items in all my years, I do know that they cut a lot of trails on state lands around the county. The company (125) appears to be Colorado-based, but I want to do a little more research. I can only imagine how devastating it must have been to lose this ring, I don't think any of those workers made very much during the Depression.
