The weather has been lousy with snow and frozen ground at home and frozen ground everywhere else. We did get a few days above freezing to the southeast so I went out and gave it a try before the foot of snow and single digit temperatures we are expecting.
I spent 4.5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 34 coins with a face value of $3.22, a wheatie, some random bits of brass, aluminum rivets, a karate kid toy, the flint wheel from a disposable lighter, can slaw, foil, copper pipe, copper wire, electronic bits, a broken tire weight and 27 tabs.
This park is the oldest in the area and has been hunted for at least 45 years that I know of. I have managed to pull silver jewelry, Barbers, V nickels, Indian heads and civil war bullets from the park. Most of the ground is target free, but there are always new losses, tabs nobody wanted to dig and the occasional oldie thy has been missed. The ground was frozen about an inch down in most of the spots I detected with grass on them. Bare ground was frozen solid. I did take my ww2 trenching pick with me and managed to hack out a few targets from the solid spots.
The best finds of the day was a hundred year old wheatie. A 1920 in decent shape for our ground conditions.
Here is a picture of all the rest of the targets I dug. I did not grid because of the ground conditions (I didn’t want to pry tiny pieces of foil out of the frozen dirt. Not a great hunt, but a long way from skunked and al least I was able to get out. If the weather goes as predicted I probably won’t get out again until mid February.
NON DETECTOR FINDS
I finally had some luck at the coinstar machine. I found a penny a quarter and a guardian angel coin. I also found 2 dimes on the floor in stores and an earring in the parking lot. Nothing fantastic, but every coin and angel helps.
