Clinton County 1892 Plat Maps

1892 Plat Maps ,Thanks Jeff

Now if we can only decifer them LOL

The IlGenWeb for each county has some a map section, the poorest map is the one for Cook County, a few have no old plats like this but most have excellent plats like this one. Go to the IlGenWeb site and pick your county and read the historical notes section also. There are usually some tales by the first settlers or their offspring of where they settled, where the Indians were, what trails that are now roads were used and better yet, one or two stories of the loss of a first home site due to fire.

One of my favs is over on Dupage I believe and the story of the Naper Brother and one took a walk to St. Louis and came back up the Miss then walked to this area through Galena, the crossing that became Rockford, (one white man with an Indian wife living at the Rock River crossing) etc.. And of course other brother who went back east to get his family and came back to find his cabin, with $300 in gold buried in it, burned and overgrown to the point that he could not locate it's site. Hmm, anyone want to hit Naper Settlement now?
