My new Cortez did not have a scuff cover, so I traced the coil and cut a skid plate from a piece of styrene and taped it over the bottom.

Good idea. Guys have used duct tape to stop abrasions and some have used Epoxy to protect it.
 
But that tape will tear up fast i think........
