Hello Forum,

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything, but now I have a real mystery. I found this coin on a trail in a very old area. The coin is the same diameter as a modern US Penny, and appears to have gold flecks on it. A friend of mine says that he sees 1242 on it. Since it was found in an area near a waterway this could have been a trade token or a coin from another country (fur trader, military) who knows. All coin experts please let me know what you think. Thanks for looking.

....size of a cent with gold flecks....
sounds more like a button rather than a coin, if it is a coin its pretty bad a probably not enough there to get an id

Thanks Rich and Iron horse. No shank or holes, so I don’t believe that this is a button. Some coins were guilded.

Nice!!! Congrats!!! Good Luck on ID!!

Not an expert in any way, but it looks like it is too far gone to be ID'd. But, thanks for posting.

Good luck on the ID. That's gonna be a tough one.

Nice find... do you have a small digital scale? The weight and VDI might help narrow the possibilities.. just a thought.

This will be a tough one...

Hello RussM,

Yes I do. Thanks again for looking.
