Hi there...I'm new to this forum so I hope I've posted this correctly. I have an interesting set of buttons - over 100 pieces - all half dome which are mostly new and hardly/never used. Half are marked T W & W Paris - the other half are marked SBC Grenoble 21. There are two sizes for each maker - assume main button and cuff button (?).

As far as I know these are French L'Administration 'Penitenaire' uniform - however I'd like to know more about their provenance and the date. Please see photos attached.

Thanks in advance,

Unfortunately, there's no way to date them to a narrow time period, because the same TW&W Paris backmark has been used for nearly a century. All I can say is that they are from sometime in the 1900s. For any readers here who don't already know, TW&W is the firm of Trenholm, Weldon, & Weil, a button manufacturing company in Paris, France... and the "21" or 21mm" marking refers to the button's diameter.

I do not have a listing of French button backmarks for researching the "S.B.C. / Grenoble" backmark. Grenoble is a city in France.

CannonBall Guy - thanks so much for your reply - have seen (in this forum and online) other similar TW&W buttons - a couple even have the same star design - but in far worse condition. Any thoughts as to value or how I'd could go about putting a value to the lot (100 pieces).
Thanks again,
NKAM

The original button withe the lance and banners is a Spanish button, made in Paris, used in the Spanish American War.I don't know what they're worth but not a whole lot.Hope this helps.
