Detector(s) used
Garrett Ace 350
Found this Coin (?) in a lake that is being drained. It appears to be silver and pinged as such on my metal detector, another man at the lake who had a higher end detector than myself said it pinged near gold for him, but I don't think it is gold. I can't seem to clean it off enough to find out what it is. Any suggestions on what to try to clean it up some? The same man found a Barber dime from 1908 that you could read so this must either be older or a different kind of metal.

It certainly seems to have the patina of old silver.
I'm interested to see what our T'Net coin wizards have to say.

Cheers, Mike

If the item pinged gold on a higher end detector, it is probably made of aluminum. Most silver stays pretty much intact, and pings pretty high. I am throwing a guess out there. It might be an older token.

Other than performing electrolysis on it, don't think there's a way to find out what type of coin it is. Make a homeade electrolysis unit (cheap - maybe $5 or $10 bucks) and that coin might come out looking brand new. Search on youtube for electrolysis videos
