i was getting into looking for some silver the change ive been finding, and came up with this

Halves: Pre-1964 40%
Quarters: Pre-1965 90%
Dimes: Pre-1965 90%
Nickels: 1942-1945 35%

could you confirm or correct this please?
its usually faster to look at the edges i know (besides nickels)

The only nickels that have silver are the war nickels from 1942-1945.

Halves 64 and earlier are 90%.

Halves untill 1964 are 90%
Halves from 65 to 70 are 40%
The 1942 nickels with a mint mark are 35%

sadly, some 1942 nickels aren't silver. Only the ones with the mint mark prominently above the building in the back are. Nothing sucks more than seeing a 1942 on the front only to turn it over and find out that it's not silver

just a few unrelated questions: im beginning a job as a cashier at a large supermarket and was wondering if people commonly use 50 cent pieces and do stores usually accept them? and second, after working there for a couple of months, do you think i could convince the manager to let me trade in some of the "older" (silver ) coins in the register for normal ones that i bring?

no, halves dont commonly circulate...thats why they have such a large silver content, because they dont circulate, so no one grabs the silver ones out of the clad. although on occasion someone might bring in a half or two, but its very rare. and yes, i often spend my halves, and have never been turned down once, they are all legal tender, and most stores accept them. and last, i dont see why you couldnt walk in the first day and swap coins if you want...no difference to the store, as long as your drawer balances out, your good to go. hope this helps! keep it up and hh!

LOL youve never been turned down? I cant tell you how many times ive had problems trying to use my halves. Bad enough many [mostly younger ones] have never even seen one with the "pushed through school" ones not even able to figure out how much a "half dollar" is worth.

Twice I've had to convince managers at fast food places that my halfs weren't Monopoly money. I was actually embarrassed for him and the clerk for how stupid they were.
