So out of curiosity and knowing nothing about a coin star how do you check a coin star for old coins?

The Coinstar's locally have a catch bin for coins that don't pass through - but these were just laying there in the shelf next to the sifting tray thing.

BTW I stopped this morning - nothing :sadsmiley: which is a normal morning .... but now? I'll always have hope

Generally all older coins will fall through. Because they are not the same metal content or weight as the modern coins that its programmed for. :icon_thumleft: So just about all your older coins will pass through and go in the reject bin. :headbang:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Congrats on that amazing find! This weekend I bought I steel war penny for one cent off of some guy using a Coinstar. I explained that I collect coins and I know that these machines reject interesting old coins and if there is anything good I would buy from you for coins that will work in the Coinstar. Also, If he had silver I would pay more than face lol.

I know to look in the reject chute but someone on another forum said to reach up in it and check the magnet for a blockage? Anyone do this before? Also does anyone know if the coin machines at banks have reject trays that they let you check as well because someone said to overload the machine on purpose so the teller has to open it up and then you can see inside it?

I can't figure out how to get to this magic box in the coinstar machine. Mine is sealed up tight. Do they make different machines?

I dunno ... maybe different machines/vendors etc have them set up differently?

I stopped on Friday and got excited when there was a bunch of coins in the tray again. 7 dines, 6 nickels and a canadian coin ... nothing old

rats :dontknow: it'll happen again ... I just got to keep looking.
