Well folks, I got out yesterday and dang it was one cold one. I hunted a couple of different areas and it was so cold I kept going back to my truck to warm up. About half an hour into swinging at a place where they just took out a house I got a nice hit and dug up my very first merc ever! ;D
A few minutes later and a bit of junk here came yet another merc! I was SO PUMPED! My heart was pumpin' hard enough to keep me warm for awhile so I kept up the swing and dig routine. Beep. Could it be? Nope, but it WAS a diamond and sapphire ring ;D ;D.
I was beside myself! Now as excited as I was I had to go warm up, but I always mark the spots where I stop with a tent stake with flagging tape. A cup of coffee and a lot of looking at the ring later, I was back at it. About ten feet from where I found the ring I find myself digging yet again. Numb hands exploring the plug I had dug, and I spot more.....sapphires and gold. :o :o :o I actually found a wedding band that goes with the engagement ring. Yeppers. I found the SET! WAHOOOOOOO ;D

I concentrated on cleaning the rings and knew I had found those first mercs. Today while cleaning up coins I realized I had found not two, but three mercs. I have to say this was my best day ever swinging, even in the freezing temps.

I am posting pics of the finds and also of the candian large cent I found a couple of weeks ago and my first indian head/pre 1900s coin.

I really want to thank the people here for being so great in helping out us newbies, and giving us ideas on where to hunt etc. You all ROCK!

Outstanding! Let us know if you have the rings appraised!
I plan on doing just that after the holidays. I imagine I will sell them if I can, and use some of the money to upgrade my detector!

Very cool indeed!!!!! And amazing as all get out as far as I am concerned. As I said, they were about ten feet apart. Seeing as how they were a set I have no idea what the odds of finding them both might be. I just know I am glad. I have dated them to betweeen '79 and '85 when jewelers had to stamp the P on the inside along with the 14k. For those that do not know, during that time the rings could be anywhere between 13 1/2 and 14 1/2 k and be stamped 14 k P. At first I thought they might be platinum and in all actuality I do not know exactly WHAT they are, as far as the metal is concerned. It appears to be white gold or platinum... I DO know the stones are real. (Have loop will travel.) I know stones to some degree and raw gold. I have a LOT to learn about coins and many other areas of treasure hunting and love everyones input.
Precisely why I thanked those who have helped me so much by sharing their knowledge. It is genuinely appreciated.

I will be back at that spot tomorrow without doubt. It seems to be thawing out which means mud and crud and soft ground in which to dig! I seriously doubt I will find anymore rings there but learned never to say never and will remain optimistic.

Thanks for all the great replies! I'll keep you all posted.
Peace

Way to go, Nash. I'm happy for ya. Now get yourself some ski clothes and get back out there. Don't let the snow stop you either.

Excellent finds you got there. Great job on getting your Merc's. I usually start talking to myself when I see the shiny glint coming outta the ground. I always say, "now that's what I'm talking about" ;D

Wow Nash, this is what we dream of. Congratulations on the awesome day.

Those rings look to be very very old, vintage. Are they Rose gold also?
There's a good markat on eBay for Vintage Wedding ring sets, so get that appraisal and you'll be in the big bucks I think. Really awesome finds!!!

Golden smiles!
