Well folks, I got out yesterday and dang it was one cold one. I hunted a couple of different areas and it was so cold I kept going back to my truck to warm up. About half an hour into swinging at a place where they just took out a house I got a nice hit and dug up my very first merc ever! ;D
A few minutes later and a bit of junk here came yet another merc! I was SO PUMPED! My heart was pumpin' hard enough to keep me warm for awhile so I kept up the swing and dig routine. Beep. Could it be? Nope, but it WAS a diamond and sapphire ring ;D ;D.
I was beside myself! Now as excited as I was I had to go warm up, but I always mark the spots where I stop with a tent stake with flagging tape. A cup of coffee and a lot of looking at the ring later, I was back at it. About ten feet from where I found the ring I find myself digging yet again. Numb hands exploring the plug I had dug, and I spot more.....sapphires and gold. :o :o :o I actually found a wedding band that goes with the engagement ring. Yeppers. I found the SET! WAHOOOOOOO ;D

I concentrated on cleaning the rings and knew I had found those first mercs. Today while cleaning up coins I realized I had found not two, but three mercs. I have to say this was my best day ever swinging, even in the freezing temps.

I am posting pics of the finds and also of the candian large cent I found a couple of weeks ago and my first indian head/pre 1900s coin.

I really want to thank the people here for being so great in helping out us newbies, and giving us ideas on where to hunt etc. You all ROCK!

:D :D :D just found a 1918 canada large cent today also...
That's awesome. I was so shocked when I found that baby! I honestlynever thought I would find anything that age up here. Truly hope you were as happy to see it as i was when I saw mine. It was my oldest until the pre 1900 IH!

I might go get the rings appraised tomorrow, but first I am going back and swinging that MD till my arms fall off. I covered maybe 1/8 of the area. There is a LOT of junk I just can't descriminate out. That means a lot of diggin' and hopefully some more good finds.

I'll post any new stuff tomorrow...provided there IS new stuff.

Fingers crossed,

~Nash~

That is so cool to hear ... What a fantastic day you had. I love having those days but most of all I love hearing about them. That is what makes this hobby so neat.. Congrats on a memorable day...................OLD houses and tear downs always produce. WTG.......

Seeing as how they were a set I have no idea what the odds of finding them both might be.

That was my first thought! What are the odds! 8) Congrats Nash!!! Beautiful finds!

Good luck tomorrow!!! Nana :)

Wow, What a awesome day. Congratulations on you Mercury finds. I Really love the rings, they are always a special find. I once found a set of wedding rings in a lake while detecting. I suppose the lady got mad at her husband and threw them both in the lake. I tried to find the owner at the campground lake where I found them, but no success.

Great IH and Large Canadian cent. Another great source for detecting sites is the Western & Eastern Treasure Magazine. It is one of the greatest magazines a guy can read. Lots of hints on places to hunt.

Thanks again for your post and great pictures Nash, you did a great job.

Nice job Nash! Were two of the mercs stuck together? I can't quite read the dates 0ne is a 1923 the others? Any mint marks on them? Silver, gold, diamonds and saphires! Man what's in store for today? Can't wait to see!

GOOD LUCK!

U got a good spot man

Wow, sweet finds. It might sound cliche but that's about as good as it gets - silver coins, old coppers and nice rings. ;D ;D All you would need are a few tokens and relics. ;) You can tell I'm easy to please.

Enjoy and good luck.

Very nice finds indeed. I live in the Sky River Valley myself and I know how cold and icy it's been lately. I'm not asking that you be specific, but I was curious what area you were huntin' in. One more quick question... Does your handle (Nashoba) refer to the Nashoba Valley in MA?

The general area is in southwest WA between the cascade mountains and the coast. SO basically I get the beaches and the old logging towns. There are a lot of old logging towns and towns born of commercial salmon fishing.... some areas were where people prospected for gold as well.
As far as my handle "Nashoba" goes. I am part Choctaw and it is part of my full name, but the meaning of the word is "Wolf".
Good luck on your digs. I believe it has quite raining and I need to get my hiney back out there!

Excellent finds Nashoba!

Now go get the rest! GOOD LUCK!
